Course details

All of our D training and model solutions are based upon our proprietary methodology. Although short explanations are given as appropriate, participants reap the maximum benefit by following a D Methodology course before doing the other training courses.

DI and DII Methodology (3-day)

In-depth legal knowledge on its own does not ensure success - the answer on the exam must be sufficiently complete and correctly presented to achieve the highest score possible. In addition, the DII paper requires a structured approach to deal with the large amount of facts presented before an answer can be written.
Competing courses often concentrate on explaining and defending the EQE Compendium answer – this can help the legal understanding, but it does not give the tools to produce a comparable answer yourself. DeltaPatents' new DI and DII methodologies have been developed and tested using the comments and experiences of many former candidates. Our approach addresses the problem faced by candidates – starting from a DI or DII question, how do you produce a good answer in the time available? 

• A unique approach of guiding the candidate from DI and DII questions to a high-scoring answer, without hindsight of the official EQE compendium.
• DeltaPatents’ DI model solutions, showing interpretation of the question, an approach to answering and the resulting high-scoring answer complete with annotations.
• Exclusive practical cases based on past DII papers, to stimulate both individual and group participation. Each case is selected to illustrate one or more steps of the methodology.
• Step-by-step guidance through a full DII paper, illustrating how the tools and techniques can be used in practice.
• Full documentation, including a DII workbook to practice further at home, additional DI and DII exercises, materials to take to the EQE and DeltaPatents’ own solutions to the DI questions and DII cases and papers.
   

DI and DII Methodology for Re-sitters (3-day)

Identical to the “DI and DII Methodology” except that the methodology is practiced using the DI and DII papers of the last EQE. The course is aims at increasing the confidence of re-sitters, by illustrating and practicing the methodology so that they can identify the areas that need improvement.

Guided Exam Training (2-day)

We recommend doing at least 4 past papers to practice approaching the exam and writing answers. However, the papers provided by the EPO are often out of date, and comparing an answer with the examiners’ solution is not always helpful to improve for the next paper. In addition, a wrong-turn on DII can mean that a lot of time is wasted on irrelevant issues. This course guides participants through two DI and DII papers, the first by giving individual comments and feedback on an answer handed-in, and the second by interactively solving the paper in steps as a group.
Prior to the course, a first DI & DII paper will be handed in by the participants, corrected by the tutor and returned, with detailed marking sheets and individual comments. Possible solutions to this first DI/DII paper will be discussed in a full group session, with attention to scoring points and common mistakes. Then, participants will be guided step-by-step through a second DI & DII paper, with regular group discussions to explore different opinions and approaches, and to share individual knowledge and experience. In particular, answers are dissected to see why some comments are required and why others are not.
All the papers we use are recent, and have been fully updated for legal changes and the latest case law. 
 

D Trial Run under Exam Conditions (3-day)

The time pressure on the D exam means you have very little time to think about how to approach the paper, or to think about the answers – the legal facts need to be memorized or at your fingertips in notes or in a reference book. This course provides a final test of EQE readiness by practicing up-to-date DI and DII exam questions under limited time pressure.
The DI questions cover the breadth of the EQE syllabus, so that weaknesses in legal knowledge can be identified. DeltaPatents’ model solutions are provided and discussed in a full group session, with attention to scoring points and common mistakes. In particular, the answers are dissected to see why some comments are included, and why others are not.
DII is addressed using an exclusive case study and the EQE DII paper of last year. Some initial guidance will be given, before participants complete the papers in stages. Between stages, group discussions will be used to keep all participants on track. Our proprietary model solutions are provided, including a detailed marking sheet, so that participants can evaluate their own performance.
