Career

After graduating with honours in combinatorics on association schemes, from the University of Delft, Sander joined the Technical University of Eindhoven to do research in the area of invariant theory, in particular he studied the action of the special linear group on homogeneous polynomials.

After he received his PhD in 2001 he joined the Cryptography Competence Center of Philips, where he worked as a cryptographer. In that capacity he consulted various businesses on the security of their products, and worked with many cryptographic standards. Most of his work was related to embedded systems. Sander researched the ’Side-Channel’ security of Philips Smart Cards. The latter resulted in new analysis methods and countermeasures against side-channel attacks such as DPA and light attacks.

In 2004, Sander joined Philips Software as Senior Security Specialist, where he was responsible for the security of Digital Rights Management (DRM) systems, in particular those running on mobile phones. He participated in discussions with the Open Mobile Alliance.

Sander joined NXP Research as a Senior Researcher in 2006. There he worked on new and advanced security systems such as physically uncloneable functions. He also became familiar with error correcting codes.

Throughout his career, for his work in research a number of patents have been applied for and granted.

In 2007 Sander switched to the field of Intellectual Property.
