Career
After graduating in the field of image data reduction (in 1980), Ton started at Philips Video Display Products developing various circuits for television receivers and computer monitors. The first years he worked in a group of four persons who were responsible for defining new receivers and monitors. He got familiar with all circuits in television receivers and computer monitors. Later, he specialized in power converters, deflection, and display drive and became technical expertise leader and head of a group of 35 developers in this field.
In 1994 Ton switched to the field of Intellectual Property. He entered the Philips Patent department, graduated for Dutch and European patent attorney, and specialized in power converters, deflection and display drive. He drafted and prosecuted many cases worldwide. His field of activities broadened to managing all IPR issues in the field of television receivers, computer monitors, and tuners. This included managing all IPR questions arising in the business groups covering these areas, managing the portfolio in these areas, and tuning the IPR activities to the commercial value of the products involved, and matching research to extend and enforce the portfolio in the respective fields. Further, he acted in several cases with respect to third parties who considered Philips products to infringe their patents, and in preparing court cases in Germany and the USA.
After passing the European Qualifying Exam (EQE), Ton became a tutor for papers A and B both within Philips to prepare candidates for the EQE, and within the central Dutch course which prepares candidates for the Dutch Patent Examination.
In 2001, Ton and three of his colleagues founded DeltaPatents. Within DeltaPatents Ton specialized in the fields of electronics, mainly in power converters, display drive, image processing algorithms and audio processing. My activities include patent creation, prosecution, exploitation, and providing courses on patent drafting and on answering communications to prepare candidates for the EQE.
Ton is also active for DeltaPatents as Tutor.
