IP Master class

Due to rapid developments in patent law and case law, Patent Attorneys are required to keep their knowledge up to date. DeltaPatents provides Patent law update courses on a regular basis. In these courses, an overview is given of the recent developments in the EPC, the PCT and other international patent laws. Important decisions of Boards of Appeal will also be discussed. If there are major law changes (for instance EPC 2000 and in 2014 the upcoming introduction of the Unitary Patent and Unified Patent Court, we also offer attorneys the opportunity to learn more about these subjects just in one day.

1-day Unitary Patent - Unified Patent Court

The unitary patent and the unitary patent court are without doubt the most important developments in European patent law in the last 40 years. As the ratification process is in progress, the moment that the unitary patent and unified court are a reality draws quickly nearer: Early 2015 the system could be fully operational. A sunrise period is expected before that and may start halfway 2014. This means that in the first half of 2014 you may need to make decisions on opting-out, and if so with which patents.

The course aims to be a practical help to patent counsel that needs to decide how to use the possibilities offered by the new system.

Furthermore, the unitary patent gives the opportunity to obtain patent protection in many countries for comparatively low costs. DeltaPatents expects that the unitary patent will offer competitive advantages compared with existing choices, making the unitary patent an attractive choice. Based on real life case studies these advantages are demonstrated. On the other hand, the unitary patent is less flexible than conventional choices and introduces the risk of central revocation by the unified patent court (UPC).
