Paper M4 Guided Exam

Preparing for paper M4 involves a lot of practice. The focus of the paper is giving advice to a client, but this involves a correct analysis of the client’s situation and an explanation of what improvements can be made, in addition to an assessment of how the client’s and the competitor’s IP rights affect the client’s business. A correct analysis of the situation in a short period of time requires efficient extraction and organisation of information. Scoring well on the exam requires formulating and presenting your answer with a sufficient level of detail. How much detail to provide in each of the different aspects can be difficult to judge on your own.

In this course, you submit a homework paper (in WISEflow) before the course begins and receive personalised feedback from the tutor on your submitted work. The feedback is objective, specific to your answer and answering style, and highlights any aspects of your M4 preparation that you should focus on.

During the course, we will discuss the homework paper and frequently made errors. The DeltaPatents methodology will be explained and we will do some smaller cases and a further “full” paper, step-by-step, putting the methodology into practice. The practice cases and papers are taken from previous D2 exams, updated and adapted for M4. These interactive sessions are also an opportunity to ask questions and gain familiarity with the EQE exam system (Wiseflow) ahead of the real exam.

How to finalize preparation for the M4 exam
Extracting and organizing the information using tools such as a timeline
Frequently occurring patentability issues, including invalid priorities, added subject matter, insufficient disclosure
Frequently occurring “solutions” on how to improve the client’s position, such as opposition, entitlement, late entry to national phase
Recognising threats from the competitor and advising the client on FTO

Materials

Sheets summarizing the M4 methodology, analysis tools, and model answers to the papers and cases covered during the course. Based on past EQE DII papers, they have been fully updated to incorporate the latest legal changes, and demonstrate how the DeltaPatents’ methodology has been applied.
Material for use at the exam, including methodology flowcharts and timeline template
Where relevant, we will use WISEflow, giving you the opportunity to get familiar with the system used during the EQE
Additional material, including tips on using WISEflow will be made available in electronic format

Registration fee and VAT information

You may register multiple participants for the same course within a single registration. However, each course requires a separate registration.
If you book multiple courses individually on the same day, only one administrative fee of € 125 will apply. A consolidated invoice, including any applicable discounts, will be issued.
All fees listed above are exclusive of 21% VAT. If a valid VAT number is provided, VAT will be exempted.

This practice course includes requires a pre-training assignment to be submitted around 10 working days before the course start date. We recommend registering at least two weeks in advance, provided seats are still available. Late registration may result in insufficient time to complete the assignment or receive feedback from the tutor.
