EQE Paper M3 courses

Paper M3

This paper assesses whether the candidate can assess, draft and develop patent documentation and submissions, based on documents and instructions from the client. This can be at the stage of filing an application, opposition or appeal, or responding to an official communication, a notice of opposition, a statement of grounds of appeal or an invitation to oral proceedings, but is not limited to these.

For a thorough understanding of the introduction to the New EQE, including its relationship with the current/old EQE format, please consult “Navigating the EQE format changes” overview prepared by epi. Main Exam Paper M3 – EIPEF

M3 is the final substantive paper of the EQE. It comprises three parts, which all have to be passed in the same year. M3 Part 1 is focused on claim drafting, M2 Part 2 on amending and defending claims and M3 Part 3 on attacking claims. The skills that are tested in the three parts of M3 are similar to those tested in the papers A, B and C of the classic EQE, but the context in which these skills are tested and the structure of the parts of the paper will vary.

The course builds on the knowledge and skills that candidates have developed with respect to EPC-substantive topics in their preparations for the Foundation Module and papers M1 and M2. Special attention will be given to the different contexts in which the cases of the three parts of M3 could be set.

While still providing a theoretical framework where necessary, the course is focused on building practical skills. Cases and mock exams play a key role in the course programme. The course is designed to be highly interactive, so it is expected that for the online sessions participants will turn their cameras on and participate actively.

This course is aimed at candidates who plan to sit the M3 paper in 2027. We strongly advise candidates to prepare for papers M3 and M4 in the same year.
